Bitumen Paint

What is a Bitumen Paint? Bitumen itself is obtained through fractional distillation of crude oil. Used in painting, it acts as solvent based and it is flammable. Bitumen paint is a paint that has high level of Bitumen and it is usually black in color. When used as painting, the final product will form an odorless and black coating suitable for metal, wood and felt protection. Bitumen paint is also used for protecting steel from hazardous weather. Because of its characteristics that are anti-corrosive and protective coating, it can be normally applied to materials such as structural concrete, steel timber, iron and steel structures. It also used for its waterproofing elements. Before applying the Bitumen paint, the surface that is to be painted must be cleared of any debris. If you are painting in metal surfaces, any sign of rust or corrosion must be removed first with wire brush before applying the Bitumen paint. Most Bitumen paint supplied in the market is already good to be use and there is no need for thinning. Any painting tools that are used for painting using Bitumen paint must be cleaned with white spirit. Due its flammable nature, any spillage must be clean properly using absorbent material. Apply at least two coats to the surface and allow each coats to be properly dried (normally 24 hours) before applying another coating.
